Despite its new focus on the Symbian and Android mobile operating systems and the generally guarded reception of last year’s X2, Sony Ericsson is apparently working on another Windows Mobile-powered handset.

Dubbed ‘Faith,’ this latest prototype from Sony Ericsson is reportedly running Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and sports a 2.4 inch QVGA touchscreen display and works on European 3G networks. The touchscreen would apparently allow for the use of “finger-friendly” controls to be found on the latest version of WinMo, suggesting a renewed interest in working with Microsoft despite previous commitments to Android and Symbian.

Whether the handset pictured is indeed an SE prototype remains to be confirmed and, even if it is, it is worth noting that many Sony Ericsson development devices whose specifications leak online never make it to market.
