News sources are reporting that HTC will soon launch two new Android-powered handsets in China: the HTC Click and the HTC Hero. With launch and servicing being done through HTC’s Chinese subsidiary Dopod, the releases would mark Androids first showing in the most populous nation in the world.
While details are sparse, the HTC Click will run on China Unicom’s WCDMA network and is expected to be available in Q4 2009 while the Hero is set for release later this month with the same carrier. Some outlets are reporting that both handsets will feature a LAN security protocol to limit web use and access to Google Maps has been eliminated totally, presumably for national security reasons.
Pricing for the HTC Click and HTC Hero in China will be 3,400 CNY ($500 USD) and 5,600 CNY ($820 USD) respectively.
